Sunni and Shia Muslims

The main difference between Sunni and Shia Muslims is the question of succession to the Prophet Mohammed. Briefly, the Sunni believe that the follower of Mohammed was to be selected through consensus among his peers, while the Shia believe that the Mohammed’s son-in-law Ali was the rightful follower of Mohammed.
