Michael Helquist

Michael Helquist is a historian, writer, and journalist. His biography of Portland physician, political activist, and lesbian feminist Marie Equi – Marie Equi: Radical Politics & Outlaw Passions was named a 2016 Stonewall Honor Book by the American Library Association. Helquist received the 2016 Joel Palmer Award from the Oregon Historical Society for his article “Criminal Operations’: The First Fifty Years of Abortion Prosecutions in Portland, 1875-1925” published in the Oregon Historical Quarterly.
