Become an Oregon Encyclopedia Project Volunteer

The Oregon Encyclopedia Project needs volunteers in several areas. Please indicate on the form below the areas in which you would like to volunteer and give any information that might help us in assigning volunteer duties: time available, areas of expertise, and so forth. Volunteers will be recognized in all versions of the Encyclopedia.

Volunteer Opportunities (check all that you are willing to do):

Fact Checking: verifying the factual information in Encyclopedia entries. This is our most vital need. Fact checking involves using reliable sources to confirm the facts in an entry, such as dates, names, titles, institutions, locations, etc. The editorial staff will provide you with a list of resources but fact checking may require additional research beyond these sources.

Photograph Research: using the Oregon Historical Society Research Library or other resources to locate images that can then be linked to individual Encyclopedia entries.

Reviewing Entries: If you have a particular field of expertise you may be able to help review and provide feedback on incoming Encyclopedia submissions.

Publicity: Promoting and assisting with statewide Encyclopedia related events or meetings.

Office Work: Working with the editorial staff on possibly multiple projects. This could include photocopying, scanning, filing, etc.

Fundraising: Helping us to raise money by contacting potential donors or assisting with writing grants.
